Congratulations to the joint-winners of the Sir Philip Trousdell Portrait Prize – Matthew Waruszynski with his portrait of “Peter” and David McGrath’s painting of his fellow student “Jade”. According to judge and Head of Painting Tai Shan Schierenberg both artists “were able to capture the sitters’ particular personalities in a very insightful and lively way and were inventive in their composition and paint application.” Due to the matching high standard of their work, Matthew and David are sharing the first prize of £100.
Joint runners-up are Elton Zeqja for his powerful large painting of “Helen” in his fresh and highly contemporary graphic style and Jane Masojada for her contemplative portrait of “Natalia” and the immediacy of her self portrait.
The judges would like to thank all of the participants for the imaginative variety and high quality of their submissions.
