AFROSYMBOLOGY- Create African inspired textile patterns using symbolism and illustrated characters

This workshop hosted by fashion artist Yéga, explores the iconic Yoruba textile tradition of tie and dye known as Àdìre Eleko. Currently enjoying a renaissance in its popularity in Nigerian fashion; participants will learn more about the imagery that makes this cloth so instantly recognisable and the stories, cultural sayings and proverbs they represent.

This 2 hour illustration workshop is suitable for all abilities including beginners and is aimed at those who are interested in drawing, storytelling and African textiles. You will learn about this Yoruba fabric and experiment with its traditional indigo colour palette. The outcome will include customising your own personal items and developing creative ideas for your very own personal symbols.

Please bring along personal items such as plain white t-shirts or plain khaki coloured totes if you wish. Paper, pens, inks and plain cloth will be provided at the workshop.
