This course is part of our Elective Skills Workshop series. You will be studying alongside students from our pre-degree and degree programmes.
Learn about different book structures and binding techniques, while incorporating reduction linocut and multi-plate woodcut prints. You’ll learn how to use basic tools to create leporello (concertina), stab-binding and single-section binding book structures, and gain a contextual understanding with a visit to Tate Britain’s Artist Book Collection
By the end of the course you will be able to:
- Understand and describe the different book formats: leporello, stab, and single section bindings
- Make reduction linocut and multi-plate woodcut prints suitable for bookmaking
- Create leporello (concertina), stab binding, single section binding book structures
- Identify paper grain direction, paper formats and employ basic bookbinding tools to fold, glue and sew
- Analyse the work of others and apply findings to the development of their own work
- Plan and complete a set of books using new and/ or existing artworks based on the techniques shown
- Plan and complete a personal project
