This is a fun, day-long taster course in sculpting with clay and plaster for those who may be considering a longer evening or daytime course and want to try it out first.

Spend the morning with the joy of clay to create a small figure sculpture from a life model. In the afternoon mix plaster and other media to make your own creative sculpture. No need to worry if you have nothing in mind.
This is a great opportunity to combine these two basic sculpture skills and techniques. There will be the option to leave your clay sculpture for hollowing and firing for an additional fee and you are welcome to take home your plaster piece.

Throughout the day the tutor will lead the class in practical demonstrations to help you get a feel for the medium and the way it can be manipulated into shape and form. We aim to foster self-certainty and an enjoyment of sculpting in a relaxed yet stimulating environment.

This course is suitable for students at our Beginner level.

  • Beginner

Choose a Beginners course if you are looking for a broad introduction to the medium you are studying. Students spend time learning the very basics of the taught medium, for example, how to mix colours, use different tools, set up an easel. Our Beginner courses are suitable for students with no prior experience, they tend to follow a more structured path than our other courses, ensuring each student receives the guidance they need from the tutor.

Other course levels include:

  • Beginner +

Choose a Beginner + course if you are looking to hone your skills, focus on a specific subject area and build your confidence. These courses are suitable for those with some basic skills in and knowledge of the taught medium, but still follow a structured path with guidance from the tutor.

  • Intermediate

Our Intermediate courses are suitable for students who have considerable prior knowledge of the taught medium or have completed a Beginners/Beginners + course with the Art Academy.

These courses tend to be less structured and instead are tailored to the classes’ needs and the direction they want to advance in. Choose an Intermediate course if you are looking to improve your skills and have more critical discussions around the work you produce.

  • Advanced

Choose our Advanced courses if you have considerable knowledge in the taught medium. You are expected to be able to work independently and have critical discussions around your work.

Our Advanced courses include our Masterclasses.

All attendees must be aged 18 or over.

All materials are supplied for this course. Please wear old clothes or bring an apron as you may get messy.

You will be offered the opportunity to have your clay pieces fired. Hollowing is necessary before a piece can be fired. This is optional and additional hollowing and firing costs will apply:

Hollowing fees:

£15 for a small figure; £20 for a portrait head; £20 for a large figure

Firing Fees:

£15 for a small figure; £20 for a portrait head; £20 for a large figure

FARNOUSH AMINI

Farnoush was born in Iran. She lives and works in London. She graduated from the Art Academy London in July 2019. Exploring material language, their connection or disconnection and their relativity to her chosen concept is her main focus. She somehow extracts the most relevant material, symbol or gesture from her chosen subject. Her work has been influenced by Iran’s revolution, war, religion and politics. Her practice consists of installation and performance art. She explores material such as: human hair, fabric, feather, metal, clay, concrete, ice, tarmac and read-made objects. By placing the familiar object in an unfamiliar form or space she overwhelms the viewer with an uneasy feeling.

She has been exhibiting in various galleries in London since 2017. In 2018 she won the “People’s Choice Award” by Passion for Freedom Art Festival at the La Galleria Pall Mall and The Royal Opera Arcade Galleries in London. In 2019 she was shortlisted and won the Sheroes Revoluciones Art Prize by Lon-art Creative in London. In 2020 she was elected as a member of Royal Society of Sculptors and was given the title MRSS. She was also selected to exhibit at the Nauvele Vague gallery in Marbella, Spain in the same year. In 2021 she has had her first solo exhibition by Nauvelle Vague Artspace at the Patioo Mono-Room in Cadiz, Spain. In 2021 for the second time she was the prize winner of the Sheros Revoluciones exhibition by Lon-art Creatives funded by the British Art Council.
