The course covers studio practice, clay types, basic core techniques of hand building for sculpture: coiling, pinching, slab building and surface decoration. These will be taught and put into practice to make finished ceramic forms. Through practical projects you will understand the material and, with emphasis on experimentation, how you can manipulate it to create a variety of forms. These can then be decorated with raw glazes and slips for a once fired finished piece.

While learning different techniques you will create ceramic pieces which you will have an opportunity to decorate using carving, impressing technique as well as slips. Your ceramic pieces will be fired fired for you.

Kiln Formed Glass
Course Code: SC2204007 Tutor: Maria Zulueta Course Dates: Monday - Friday, 17th - 21st July 2023 Days: 5 Times: 9.45am - 4.45pm Experience Level: Ages 18+, All Levels Fee: £345 Location: Art Academy London, 165A Mermaid Court, SE1 1HR £345.00A comprehensive introduction to the various techniques of kiln formed glass as well as a brief study of the history of glassmaking. This is an all-round opportunity to experiment with ideas and technical glass making skills from a sculptural perspective that progresses to completing an independent project. The course covers model and mould making using a variety of mould making materials, approaches kiln formed glass techniques and starting points such as open casting, Patte de Verre & lost wax casting . You will be taught how to create moulds for open cast and lost wax process, reproduction of wax objects and shapes by using silicone. Students will prepare glass understanding volume form the cast and Patte de Verre process. Project will be set to encourage you to adopt an experimental approach using mould making refractory processes. You will be shown how to use coloured glass to create a 3D sculptural glass form of your own design. You will be taught through demonstration, group and individual instruction and learn from hands on experience. Through looking at both contemporary and historical works you will discover the potential of the medium of glass. -

Course Code: EC2204007 Tutor: Jane Ross Course Dates: Tuesdays 4th July - 1st August 2023 Days: 5 Times: 6.30pm - 9.00pm Experience Level: All Levels Fee: £165 Location: Art Academy London, 165A Mermaid Court, SE1 1HR £165.00An exploration of the intriguing, magical world of kiln formed glass. This course allows you to learn a variety of techniques including fusing, slumping, hand cut stencils, sandblasting, inclusions, uv bonding and surface decoration. Course tutor Jane Ross is a skilled glass artist who explores several glass disciplines in her own practice. Throughout the course, you will use a range of techniques to build a collection of samples and create a final piece. You are free to explore their preferred techniques and those of you who have already done the course can rejoin to continue building upon their previous work with tutored guidance.
