Drawing in Museums
Course Code: WC2301140 Tutor: Natasha Lien Course Dates: Saturdays, 28th October - 25th November 2023 Days: 5 Times: 2.00pm – 4.30pm Experience Level: Beginner+ Fee: £200 Location: Various locations From: £200.00This 5 week course is a wonderfully relaxing way to start the weekend and develop drawing and creative skills both for beginners and advanced drawers. The course is suitable for all skill levels and is designed to enable students to express a creative response to either museum artworks, or outdoor environment. The tutor will meet each student at their unique individual level.
The course locations may vary nearer the time in response to the current situation. We will draw in indoor locations such as cafes and undercover markets where possible. Students will learn fundamental observational skills such structural drawing, measuring, tone and basic perspective. As well as develop an understanding of how artworks are put together to create particular impressions upon the viewer. -

Over the ten weeks, students work across the different disciplines of painting, sculpture, drawing and printmaking. Throughout the course, students will have a chance to improve observational drawing skills, along with more expressive sculpture and painting. Students will also learn to approach the human figure through drawing, painting and sculpture, before rounding off the course with an introduction to printmaking. This is a great ‘taster’ course and an excellent opportunity to develop new skills, explore materials, and have fun.

Introduction to Digital Comics

You will be introduced to a range of digital tools giving you the ability to produce your own comic.
Students will primarily be using Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign and are welcome to also use ProCreate or ClipStudio Students will bring their ideas to life by creating a comic page using a variety of digital applications. It is not essential, however, some drawing skills and knowledge of comics/graphic storytelling would be useful as this course is designed to teach you how to use the softwares listed above.

This course teaches skills and expressive drawing in a unique way to develop your drawing most effectively, and is suitable for more advanced drawers as well as beginners.

The course is designed to enable students to express a creative response to museum artworks, as well as develop an understanding of how artworks are put together to create particular impressions upon the viewer. The course will start by exploring the Cast Courts at the V&A after which students will have the opportunity to draw from the collection. There will be a further tour in the afternoon and the day will conclude with a final review of the drawings made.
This course is ideal for students with some drawing experience who would like to try drawing in a gallery/ museum environment.

One Day Taster: Watercolour & Ink – 18th November
Course Code: TAS2301T05 Tutor: Laura Ribbons Course Dates: Saturday, 18th November 2023 Days: 1 Times: 10.30am – 4.30pm Experience Level: Beginner Fee: £105 Location: Art Academy London, 165A Mermaid Court, SE1 1HR £105.00In this one day taster, course tutor and professional artist Laura Ribbons will gently guide students through the process of exploring two wonderfully dynamic mediums: watercolours and ink. Students will be introduced to a range of techniques and will spend the morning exploring the properties of both and making a series of colour studies. In the afternoon, students will have the opportunity of making a larger work, creating their own composition and working in watercolours, inks or a combination of the two to paint their own still life incoporating plants and objects.
Laura is an experienced tutor and has been working professionally with inks and watercolours for over a decade, she is a passionate advocate for the two mediums. The session is open to both complete begginers and more experienced artists alike and will be relaxed and friendly. Laura believes in taking an exploratory approach to teaching and will support students to test out the medium and to uncover their creative voice.
