Drawing in Museums
Course Code: WC2301140 Tutor: Natasha Lien Course Dates: Saturdays, 28th October - 25th November 2023 Days: 5 Times: 2.00pm – 4.30pm Experience Level: Beginner+ Fee: £200 Location: Various locations From: £200.00This 5 week course is a wonderfully relaxing way to start the weekend and develop drawing and creative skills both for beginners and advanced drawers. The course is suitable for all skill levels and is designed to enable students to express a creative response to either museum artworks, or outdoor environment. The tutor will meet each student at their unique individual level.
The course locations may vary nearer the time in response to the current situation. We will draw in indoor locations such as cafes and undercover markets where possible. Students will learn fundamental observational skills such structural drawing, measuring, tone and basic perspective. As well as develop an understanding of how artworks are put together to create particular impressions upon the viewer. -
One Day Taster: Drawing – 8th October
Course Code: TAS2301T02 Tutor: Usva Inei Course Dates: Sunday, 8th October 2023 Days: 1 Times: 10.00am - 4.30pm Experience Level: Beginner Fee: £105 Location: Art Academy London, 165A Mermaid Court, SE1 1HR £105.00This is a fun, day-long taster course in drawing for those who may be considering a longer evening or daytime course and are wondering how much they will enjoy it.
Throughout the day the tutor will lead the class in practical demonstrations to help you begin to see shape and tone, and how these elements can relate together to form a composition. We aim to foster self-certainty and an enjoyment of drawing in a relaxed yet stimulating environment. As you work through a series of exercises, you will gain confidence with pencil and charcoal, which will encourage you to further explore the medium. -
One Day Taster: Drawing in Museums – 15th October
Course Code: TAS2301T40 Tutor: Natasha Lien Course Dates: Sunday, 15th October 2023 Days: 1 Times: 10.30am – 4.30pm Experience Level: Beginner Fee: £105 Location: Art Academy London, 165A Mermaid Court, SE1 1HR £105.00Draw for a day at the V&A! The course is designed to enable students to express a creative response to museum artworks, as well as develop an understanding of how artworks are put together to create particular impressions upon the viewer. The course will start by exploring the Cast Courts at the V&A after which students will have the opportunity to draw from the collection. There will be a further tour in the afternoon and the day will conclude with a final review of the drawings made.
This course is ideal for students with some drawing experience who would like to try drawing in a gallery/ museum environment.

One Day Taster: Watercolour & Ink – 18th November
Course Code: TAS2301T05 Tutor: Laura Ribbons Course Dates: Saturday, 18th November 2023 Days: 1 Times: 10.30am – 4.30pm Experience Level: Beginner Fee: £105 Location: Art Academy London, 165A Mermaid Court, SE1 1HR £105.00In this one day taster, course tutor and professional artist Laura Ribbons will gently guide students through the process of exploring two wonderfully dynamic mediums: watercolours and ink. Students will be introduced to a range of techniques and will spend the morning exploring the properties of both and making a series of colour studies. In the afternoon, students will have the opportunity of making a larger work, creating their own composition and working in watercolours, inks or a combination of the two to paint their own still life incoporating plants and objects.
Laura is an experienced tutor and has been working professionally with inks and watercolours for over a decade, she is a passionate advocate for the two mediums. The session is open to both complete begginers and more experienced artists alike and will be relaxed and friendly. Laura believes in taking an exploratory approach to teaching and will support students to test out the medium and to uncover their creative voice.

Sketching Perspective

This course focuses on the importance of perspective and spatial perception as the basis of realism, helping you develop and learn the laws of geometry to create form, dimension, distance and space within your works.
With a focus on producing quick freehand sketches of buildings, rooms, furniture, and stairs, using plans, elevation, and axonometric drawings, master both one and two-point perspective techniques. This course is suitable for all levels, those experienced artists who are looking to strengthen their fundamentals of drawing, as well as beginners.

Course Code: SUN2301015 Tutor: Various tutors Course Dates: Sundays, 1st October - 22nd October 2023 Days: 4 Times: 10.30am - 1.30pm Experience Level: All Levels Fee: £185 Location: Art Academy London, 165A Mermaid Court, SE1 1HR £185.00This stimulating and exciting course is taking place over 4 consecutive Sunday mornings and is an ideal way to explore a wide variety of artistic methods and media, learn new skills, discover what you enjoy most, and develop creative ideas. Students will work across the different disciplines of painting, sculpture, drawing and printmaking. Students will have a chance to improve observational drawing skills; try out more expressive sculpture and painting, and learn how to approach the human figure, using a variety of materials and methods. This is a great ‘taster’ course and an excellent opportunity to develop new skills, explore materials and have fun.
