Creative Painting for Beginners

It is an opportunity to develop your own personal painting style and create paintings with real meaning to you as well as enjoying exploring the medium of paint’s full potential.
The tutor will lead you to draw on inspiration from many other artists’ work and will guide you step by step through the stages of developing your own artwork. The course covers basic painting techniques such as line, tone, understanding colour as well as the application of paint. It also explores more expressive methods through simple exercises focusing on composition, abstraction and working with the figure. You will spend time in the last few weeks developing a finished painting, using techniques you have developed over the duration of the course.

Developing Your Style – Painting Techniques
Course Code: EC2204029 Tutor: Kinga Markus Course Dates: Thursdays 6th July - 24th August Days: 8 Times: 6.15pm - 8.45pm Experience Level: Intermediate Fee: £250 Location: Art Academy London, 165A Mermaid Court, SE1 1HR From: £250.00This course focuses on developing each student’s style of painting, both through pushing creative expression and refining technical ability. By working from the model, and by developing with a creative project, students will explore multiple ways of using paint to convey a certain message or feeling.
In the first part of the course students will be working from the figure, developing core painting skills whilst also reflecting on their use of paint. Working with oil and/or acrylic paints students will develop a series of artworks, from quick sketches to longer more developed pieces. Focus will be on developing expressive paintings that through their specific use of colour, composition and brushwork, have something to say about the human figure. This will be informed by looking at different ways other artists have used paint to achieve a certain result.
In the second part of the course students will work on a personal creative project. Students will be guided step by step through the process of developing an idea, collecting source material and references, experimenting with different techniques and approaches, before the final execution. By looking at contemporary and historical artists, and through dialogue with the group, students will develop their creative and critical awareness. This course would be a great follow on from the Intermediate Painting or Figure and Portrait Painting.

It is a great follow-on course from our ‘Painting for Beginners’ or ‘Creative Painting for Beginners’ and will also suit you if you already have some basic experience of painting and want to take your skills to the next level. The course begins by developing your core painting skills, exploring line, tone, colour and mass, whilst continually pushing your creative expression. The tutor will lead you to draw inspiration from many other artist’s work and will guide you step by step through the stages of developing your own painting. They will help you engage with the subject matters and styles that excite you and assist you in bringing them into your own artworks. By looking at a broad variety of techniques, materials and styles, the course aims to broaden your ability to express yourself in paint.

Outdoor Creative Painting

The Art Academy is just a short stroll from all sorts of exciting locations that could become a focus of a painting; the Thames, the Tate, Borough Market, Tower Bridge, St Paul’s, the shard, building sites and lots of small gardens. The majority of this course will be based outdoors painting on site, although there will be a studio available for use if the weather prevents us from working outdoors. You will learn techniques of tone, colour, atmosphere, composition, perspective, as well as how to be organised and efficient with materials when working out and about. The course culminates in the studio developing a more ambitious painting working from sketches or photos.
