Introduction to Oil Painting Stage 1

One Day Taster: Watercolour & Ink – 18th November
Course Code: TAS2301T05 Tutor: Laura Ribbons Course Dates: Saturday, 18th November 2023 Days: 1 Times: 10.30am – 4.30pm Experience Level: Beginner Fee: £105 Location: Art Academy London, 165A Mermaid Court, SE1 1HR £105.00In this one day taster, course tutor and professional artist Laura Ribbons will gently guide students through the process of exploring two wonderfully dynamic mediums: watercolours and ink. Students will be introduced to a range of techniques and will spend the morning exploring the properties of both and making a series of colour studies. In the afternoon, students will have the opportunity of making a larger work, creating their own composition and working in watercolours, inks or a combination of the two to paint their own still life incoporating plants and objects.
Laura is an experienced tutor and has been working professionally with inks and watercolours for over a decade, she is a passionate advocate for the two mediums. The session is open to both complete begginers and more experienced artists alike and will be relaxed and friendly. Laura believes in taking an exploratory approach to teaching and will support students to test out the medium and to uncover their creative voice.

Painting for Beginners

Students learn to see colour, shape and tone, and to relate all these elements together in compositions. This course aims to foster self-confidence and enjoyment of painting in a stimulating environment. ​Working through a series of exercises you will gain experience and skills in painting still life, self portrait and the interior. Whilst also exploring a more creative approach to painting, helping you establish your own style and identity. This course is a fun and relaxing experience, offering plenty of guidance from the tutor.

Portrait Painting

The emphasis will be on learning to see form and colour accurately and using these skills to better create loose, expressive portraits. Working with oil paints students will develop a series of artworks, from short expressive painting sketches, to longer more detailed pieces. The class has the benefit of 1:8 model to student ratio, as well as tuition from a talented professional artist.
