This workshop will introduce you to collagraph printmaking – a versatile and creative printmaking method that uses cardboard as a plate surface. Lines can be scratched into it, tapes, glues and other textures can be collaged on and carborundum, a sand like grit, can be glued at different densities to create different tones. Block printing can also be combined with this method so that it can effectively be both an intaglio and relief technique.

Japanese Woodcut or Mokuhanga is a relief printmaking process that is completely non-toxic in that it uses watercolour pigments and nori (rice starch) instead of oil-based ink. The prints are handprinted using a baren – a disc-shaped printmaking tool used to hand burnish a print by rubbing it over the surface of the paper when it is in contact with the inked-up block.
