DROP-IN SESSIONS

Join our relaxed and enjoyable drop-in sessions, held at various times for maximum flexibility.

All drop-in sessions must be booked via our Eventbrite page.

Please note that bookings made through Eventbrite are non-refundable. It is only possible to transfer bookings from one event to another up to 7 days prior to the start of the booked event. Additionally, providing there is space on the day it will still be possible to pay by card (Visa, Mastercard) in the reception shortly before the lesson; we do however recommend booking through Eventbrite in order to guarantee a place.

The “Open Life Class” is a relaxed and enjoyable life drawing and painting course with a life model for various poses lasting between one and four weeks at a time. Students will be able to approach the human figure in any way they please and make as many drawings or paintings as they care to pursue with as much or as little instruction as they like.

Who can book and Open Life session?

Your experienced tutor will happily guide both beginners as well as those who are more experienced.

What materials will you need?

Students should feel free to use whichever materials they enjoy using the most, whether that is drawing in charcoal or ink or painting in oils or acrylics. Paper is provided though please bring your own drawing/painting materials with you.

There is a small shop at the Academy where you will be able to purchase any materials on the day if needed.

When are they happening?

Friday Short Pose, 6pm – 7:30pm

Friday Long Pose, 7:45pm – 9:15pm

Saturdays, 10:30am – 1pm

Sundays, 10:30am – 1pm

How much do they cost?

£15 per 1.5 hour session (includes paper).

£30 per 2.5 hour session (includes paper).

These sessions are a wonderfully relaxing way to spend your Saturday afternoon and develop drawing and creative skills both for beginners and advanced drawers.

Students will learn fundamental observational skills such structural drawing, measuring, tone and basic perspective. As well as develop an understanding of how artworks are put together to create particular impressions upon the viewer.

What experience will you need?

Suitable for all skill levels, these sessions are designed to enable students to express a creative response to either museum artworks, or outdoor environment. The tutor will meet each student at their unique individual level.

Structure & Line at the V&A, Saturday 20th April 

Tone at the V&A, Saturday 27th April 

Rhythm & Composition at the National Gallery, Saturday 4th May 

Measurement & Perspective at the British Museum, Saturday 11th May 


What materials will you need?

All students will need to bring their own Drawing materials, we recommend you bring the following:

  • Sketchbook or surface to draw on
  • Set of lead pencils (2B, 4B, 6B)
  • Charcoal (Willow or compressed)
  • Pastel pencils
  • Putty rubber and eraser
  • Pencil sharpener


How much do they cost?

Each session is £45 for 2.5 hours.

Our print drop-in sessions will give you the opportunity to further develop your own projects at your own pace. This are self-led sessions where you are able to use our print studio. One of the Art Academy Print Associates will be supervising at all times, to offer support and advice.

Who can book Printmaking drop-in sessions?

To make sure you can safely use the facilities, if you are not an experienced printmaker, we request that you have completed at least one evening or weekend printmaking course with us.

What materials will you need?

You must purchase your own materials. Art Academy London provides tools, presses and etching sundries in the Print Studio and there is availability for you to purchase individual paper and plates (card payments only). You can choose to supply your own inks and extender or pay a service fee of £10 per session to access the available inks stocked by AAL.

When are they happening?

£30 per 3 hour  session (includes cleaning sundries)

£40 per 4 hour  session (includes cleaning sundries)

If you have completed a print course with us in the last term, then you might be eligible for a free open access session. You’ll have the opportunity to finish off your project or even take your work to the next level and explore new ideas.

Terms & Conditions

  • To qualify for free open access, you must have completed a printmaking course at Art Academy London. The completed printmaking course must have been 15 hours or longer. This offer is not applicable to those who have completed only one taster day or attended a print session as part of a ‘mix’ course.
  • The free access is available for use up to one calendar year after your course finishes. 
  • You are entitled to a maximum of 1 free open access session per calendar year. 
  • Once we have allocated you a free place, we cannot transfer you to another date or time.
