Explore the vibrant world of printmaking in this dynamic taster course led by experienced printmakers in each process. Across six hands-on sessions, you’ll explore the core techniques that have shaped printmaking from the 9th century to the present day. Throughout the course you will discover the:
Painterly spontaneity of Monotype
Depth of Drypoint
Fine detail of Etching
Bold graphic power of Woodcut
Photographic precision of Photoetching using eco-friendly photopolymer plates.
Whether you’re new to printmaking or looking to deepen your practice, this course offers a unique blend of historical insight, technical skill, and creative experimentation. Join us and unlock the expressive potential of these timeless processes. Once you have completed the course we recommend signing up for our Etching: Aquatint and Sugarlift Printmaking course, or join us for Open Access sessions which give you the opportunity to further develop your printmaking skills. After completing this course, students will be given a free Open Access session.

Choose a Beginners course if you are looking for a broad introduction to the medium you are studying. Students spend time learning the very basics of the taught medium, for example, how to mix colours, use different tools, set up an easel. Our Beginner courses are suitable for students with no prior experience, they tend to follow a more structured path than our other courses, ensuring each student receives the guidance they need from the tutor.Beginner

Bankside Campus
Students are welcome to use The Hub during break times, where you can prepare hot drinks and/or food. You must bring your own keep-cup, water bottle or food container to the Academy as mugs, glasses, and containers will not be available in our Bankside campus.
Tea and coffee will be provided by the Academy and is available from the island unit at the end of The Hub.
