Designed for those of all levels of experience, this course will enable you to build confidence, refine technique, and push your work in new directions. Through guided exercises and personal projects, you’ll explore the full potential of the medium with support from an experienced tutor.

Sessions will cover:
– Colour & tone – exploring nuanced colour mixing, varied palettes, and tonal structures
– Texture & layering – how mediums, tools, and unconventional techniques can transform the surface of your painting
– Observational & expressive approaches – working from still life, landscape, figure, and abstraction
– Composition – the importance of placement, scale, and rhythm
– Personal projects – develop a painting with support from the tutor

By the end of the course, you’ll have strengthened your technical understanding of acrylics while expanding your confidence in experimentation. You’ll gain greater control over colour, tone, and mark-making, and develop a more thoughtful approach to composition. Teaching combines demonstrations, practical exercises, individual tuition, and group discussion. Beginners can follow clear step-by-step guidance, while more experienced painters are encouraged to stretch their technique and take risks.
After completion, you may be interested in developing skills further in our Abstract Painting course or exploring a different medium in Oil Painting for Beginners.

Please note: The course overview provides a general overview of course content and may be subject to minor changes at the tutors discretion.
