This is an exciting new course that will help take your painting skills to the next level whether you’ve already been painting at home, want to reinvigorate your style, or have attended painting classes before.
The course begins by developing your core painting by working on skills such as:
Towards the end of the course the tutor will guide you step by step through the stages of developing your own work. You will focus on the subject matters and styles that excite you. By experimenting with a variety of techniques and styles, this course will help you develop your own artistic expression. Once completed, join our Stage 3 course to continue developing your skills.

Choose a Beginner + course if you are looking to hone your skills, focus on a specific subject area and build your confidence. These courses are suitable for those with some basic skills in and knowledge of the taught medium, but still follow a structured path with guidance from the tutor.Beginner +
If you do not have your own materials, we recommend you order one of our Painting Packs when booking. You can purchase this at the checkout. Once ordered, packs will be available when you arrive for your first class. There is also a mini shop in the Academy that supplies the basics such as canvas boards, paints, Zest-it etc. (card purchases only)
The Academy is a white spirit and turpentine free environment and only odourless spirits, such as Zest-it or Sansodor, are permitted on the premises. These can also be recycled on site. If you are using oil paints you must bring 1 small jar with a lid to hold your solvent as this should be reused each week. If you want to dispose of your solvent please speak to your tutor as these cannot be poured down the sink and must be disposed of correctly.
Please also bring an apron or old clothing to wear.
Please note that pack contents are subject to change at the discretion of the Academy at any time.

Natasha Lien trained as an undergraduate at Central Saint Martin’s College of Art and Design in
London, and completed her postgraduate at the Princes Drawing School. Exhibitions include The Royal Academy Summer Exhibition in 2004, 2007, 2008, Dulwich Picture Gallery, The Mall Galleries, The Royal College of Art and The Slade. Natasha has a wide variety of teaching experience, covering all age ranges. Her workshops include Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery and various adult education classes. Her work includes drawing, painting and print-making. Her compositions tend to focus on people, landscapes and buildings. She has many interests including perspective, colour, tone, rhythm and form. Natasha’s work is in many private collections, including those of HRH The Prince of Wales.
Kinga’s subject matter ranges from crows and raw meat, to portraits of family and friends. All of her work attempts to excavate the social, political and economic ideologies by which we are invested and shaped. Kings was recently Digital Artist in Residence at Brent Museum and Archives, part of Being Brent, a community project funded by The National Lottery Heritage Fund. Taking the museum collection as her main inspiration, and drawing upon her experience of growing up and living in the area, Kinga created an animated film using charcoal drawings.
