In this exciting course for ages 15-17, students will experiment with a range of materials including; paints, textiles, plaster casting and mixed-media. This course aims to help students develop a new range of skills and expand their artistic skillset. There will be time for one-to-one guidance and input from the tutor to further help and encourage students to develop their own ideas and artistic projects.

On the final day students will be able to work on a personal project where they will translate their newfound abilities and ideas into a finished artwork or works in progress using the techniques and media they have been shown.

Please bring old clothes and two jam jars or containers for water. Please also bring a camera/phone to photo document your work.
Preparation for the Personal Project day: students should bring in a range of images of a place, object, or concept, that excites and inspires them, to help develop their personal project.
Gail’s paintings reflect her fascination with the urban landscape, figures and stories around her, and an interplay between structure and spontaneity, observation and re-imagining. She has exhibited across the capital and her work has been shortlisted for the inaugural Evening Standard Contemporary Painting Prize and the prestigious Lynn Painter-Stainers Prize and is held in private collections in the UK and internationally. Gail enjoys teaching in a variety of settings, encouraging and supporting students to develop their skills and style with a range of approaches and artistic references.
Lynne Abrahamson studied Fine Art in Barcelona before coming to London where she did a Certificate in Sculpture at the City of London Polytechnic and then went to Central St.Martins. She did the Diploma at The Art Academy, where she qualified in 2011 with a first. During her time at the Academy, she began to use ceramics and textiles and has gone on to specialize in textiles and embroidery within her mixed media art practice. Her work is a personal narrative about her experiences as a mother and themes such as separation, loss and change relating to the various stages in her life. Her work is quirky and she aims to deal with serious issues in a light-hearted way. She has taken part in the Craft fair at Hatfield House, has exhibited in the Menier Chocolate Factory, has works in private collections as well as in Clontarf Castle and has had work shortlisted on Saatchi online . She was winner of the Wolfendale Prize for natural forms. Lynne is currently working on a number of projects; internal landscapes using thread as her medium and soft sculptures combining fabric, steel and felt. She teaches on the Diploma and Foundation Courses at the Academy and is Head of SEN.

Bankside Campus
Students are welcome to use The Hub during break times, where you can prepare hot drinks and/or food. You must bring your own keep-cup, water bottle or food container to the Academy as mugs, glasses, and containers will not be available in our Bankside campus.
Tea and coffee will be provided by the Academy and is available from the island unit at the end of The Hub.
