Designed for confident beginners ready to refine their technique, in this session you’ll explore the sculptural form of candlesticks; learning to throw taller, thinner walls and the skill of ‘coning in’ clay. This is a practical, hands-on course with an emphasis on improving control, consistency, and creativity at the wheel.
Throughout the session, you will:
– Learn how to shape upright, straight structures using 500–600g of clay
– Develop precision with ‘coning in’, an essential technique to control height and wall thickness
– Experiment with proportions and silhouettes to create unique candlestick designs
– Apply slip or underglaze for colour and contrast
You’ll be guided through demonstrations and receive one-to-one support as you throw, refine, and experiment throughout the day.
After the session, you may be interested in joining our 5-week Wheel Throwing Improvers course.
