Join us for this festive edition of beginners Reflief Printmaking. Guided by an expert printmaker, you will learn how to translate your ideas into the graphic formats of woodcut and linocut. To add a seasonal touch to the experience students may decide to print cards rather than paper prints. Either way we hope you will enjoy the opportunity to develop or learn new skills and potentially create gifts for Christmas.
In this course students will learn to carve both a linoleum plate and wooden block, using specialist Japanese carving tools to develop a series of reduction relief prints in multiple colour combinations. Relief printing focuses on form and texture; you will learn to combine the tone, hue and saturation of multiple colours to achieve an edition of prints on archival Italian paper.

This popular course is a perfect introduction to relief printing and is open to all, from complete beginners to those with more experience.
The studio is a low-toxic environment with dedicated printmaking facilities for professional hands-on learning. Once you have completed the course we recommend signing up to one of our other Printmaking courses to learn a new technique, to further develop your printmaking skills.

This course is suitable for all levels. Students can move at their own pace depending on their experience, with as much support from the Tutor as they wish. This means an student from the following experience levels can join this course:
Choose a Beginners course if you are looking for a broad introduction to the medium you are studying. Our Beginner courses are suitable for students with no prior experience.
Choose a Beginner + course if you are looking to hone your skills, focus on a specific subject area and build your confidence. These courses are suitable for those with some basic skills in and knowledge of the taught medium.
Our Intermediate courses are suitable for students who have considerable prior knowledge of the taught medium or have completed a Beginners/Beginners + course with the Art Academy.
Choose our Advanced courses if you have considerable knowledge in the taught medium. You are expected to be able to work independently and have critical discussions around your work.All Levels

All materials will be provided, please wear clothes you don’t mind getting messy.
Following a First Class Honours Degree in Illustration from Middlesex University in 2007, Frederic went on to study Fine Art Printmaking at the Royal College of Art, where he received his MA in 2009. Frederic has shown continuously throughout the globe and has picked up numerous prizes for his printmaking and drawing skills.
Students are welcome to use The Hub during break times, where you can prepare hot drinks and/or food. You must bring your own keep-cup, water bottle or food container to the Academy as mugs, glasses, and containers will not be available in our Bankside campus.
Tea and coffee will be provided by the Academy and is available from the island unit at the end of The Hub.
