Drawing Trees: Spend a day in Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens with tutor and artist, Natasha Lien, studying a variety of trees in all shapes and sizes. With over one hundred different species of trees in the area, you will develop skills in how to depict the characteristics and forms of these often overlooked subjects.
By working on location students will cover drawing fundamentals including:
At the beginning of the session, students will look at artists who have studies trees in landscapes who have specialised in both drawing and painting. Depending on each individual’s ability, students can either engage in several exercises or work in their own way with guidance from the tutor. Weather permitting, students will work outside or have the option to work in one of the nearby cafes.
This course is suitable for all levels, particularly those who already have some experience in drawing. The tutor will come round to guide each individual, giving advice and suggestions on how to improve their skills.
By the end of this day, you will have the confidence to draw outside and be inspired to continue your drawing journey.

All attendees must be aged 18 and over.
This course is suitable for all levels. Students can move at their own pace depending on their experience, with as much support from the Tutor as they wish. This means an student from the following experience levels can join this course:
Choose a Beginners course if you are looking for a broad introduction to the medium you are studying. Our Beginner courses are suitable for students with no prior experience.
Choose a Beginner + course if you are looking to hone your skills, focus on a specific subject area and build your confidence. These courses are suitable for those with some basic skills in and knowledge of the taught medium.
Our Intermediate courses are suitable for students who have considerable prior knowledge of the taught medium or have completed a Beginners/Beginners + course with the Art Academy.
Choose our Advanced courses if you have considerable knowledge in the taught medium. You are expected to be able to work independently and have critical discussions around your work.All Levels

You will need to bring your own drawing materials to the class, which you can store at The Art Academy for the duration of the course. If you do not have your own materials, we recommend you order the Pack, below, at the time of booking, which will be available when you arrive for your first class. There is also a mini shop in the Academy that supplies the basics such as pencils, sketchbooks, putty rubbers etc. (card purchases only).
Please also bring an apron or old clothing to wear.

Natasha Lien trained as an undergraduate at Central Saint Martin’s College of Art and Design inÂ
London, and completed her postgraduate at the Princes Drawing School. Exhibitions include The Royal Academy Summer Exhibition in 2004, 2007, 2008, Dulwich Picture Gallery, The Mall Galleries, The Royal College of Art and The Slade. Natasha has a wide variety of teaching experience, covering all age ranges. Her workshops include Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery and various adult education classes. Her work includes drawing, painting and print-making. Her compositions tend to focus on people, landscapes and buildings. She has many interests including perspective, colour, tone, rhythm and form. Natasha’s work is in many private collections, including those of HRH The Prince of Wales.
