This inventive course bridges contemporary digital imagery with traditional printmaking. Explore drypoint etching as a medium to translate photographs, scans, and digitally generated images into prints.
Throughout the course, you will explore:
– How to prepare, mark, and print aluminium plates using a professional etching press
– Translate photographs and digital images into etched lines, tones, and textures
– Using plastic plates as a flexible, accessible surface for drypoint
– Build complexity through chine-collé, monoprint, and layered approaches
By the end of the course, you’ll have produced a small body of drypoint prints, gained technical confidence using an etching press, and understood how different materials affect line and tone. This course is suitable for all levels, from beginners to those with printmaking experience. Teaching is demonstration-led and highly practical, with step-by-step guidance, group discussion, and individual support.
After completing this course, you may be interested in joining our Print Open Access sessions to continue working on your project, available to book through our Eventbrite page.
