We are very excited to invite artist-printmaker Jamie Temple back to Art Academy for this one-off experimental printmaking weekend.
Join Jamie to explore a range of approaches to creating and experimenting with texture, form and colour to create a unique set of multi layered etched linocut prints. You will learn the basics of lino printing as well as some more experimental approaches to the medium:
We will also delve into various monoprinting techniques that can be combined with relief printing to add an extra layer of depth and intrigue to your work. Throughout the weekend you will learn about expressive mark-making by playing and experimenting with lino etching using a caustic solution. You will be shown accurate registration techniques, printing multiple etched and carved blocks of lino, exploring basic principles of colour theory, to create abstract compositions from etched and carved textures and forms.
This course is open to all skill levels, although some experience with lino printing would be useful, and perfect for developing new approaches to your work. We recommend bringing along any ideas, images or sketches that you would like to explore in your prints. Jamie will be on hand throughout the two days offering one to one support and sharing varied examples to inspire your new prints.

Jamie Temple is an artist from North East Scotland, living and working in South East London, whose practice is rooted in printmaking and wood carving, from which he creates unique works on paper, sculpture and installation.
His work draws from a fascination with the built and natural environments we inhabit, move in and transform. Temple takes inspiration from the infinitely complex planetary systems and social structures in which we all survive.
Recent works, projects and exhibitions speak to the complexity of the world in which we exist and its multitude of systems and structures layered one upon another; interacting, interfering, diffracting. Layers of chaotic and dynamic systems interwoven – environmental, social, planetary, human made. The flows of matter in the air we breathe, particles in our oceans and drinking water. Disrupted weather patterns and polluted atmospheres and landscapes.
