Tutor - Painting & Drawing
Julia Ellen Lancaster
My practice explores histories of a place or a space through geological excavations of clay with an intention of creating a language for future museums. In doing so, I embrace a wide range of techniques, pushing the traditional parameters of clay as a material, using extreme heat.
The works respond to the influencing factors of a place, including architecture, landscape, communities and often includes elements that engage directly with inhabitants of the surrounding environment.
I work across London, Kent and Cornwall and have taught in a range of institutions, including Central Saint Martins, Royal College of Art and have exhibited in the UK and Tokyo.
