Sarah Dempsey is a teacher, passionate in unlocking the skills and ambitions of students. She believes looking is a unique tool in order to improve how we understand the world around us. Analysing historic artwork is also embedded within Sarah’s teaching in order to learn, test ideas and share information. When contemplating the connection between drawing and teaching she is enthusiastic within demonstrations to put theories into practice and to enable students to self discover.
Her current practice is within observation of her surroundings, in particular of a place she visits in Italy, repainting and redrawing a mountainous landscape in order to understand it. She is interested in the lines used to capture movement; the rise and fall of hills and valleys and the sense of depth created through spaces and intangible connections. Her practice pushes the boundaries of mark making used within painting and drawing.
Sarah has a degree in Drawing, from Camberwell College of Arts and PGCE from Brighton. She has exhibited locally in her hometown of Hastings where she lives and works.
