The course locations may vary nearer the time in response to the current situation and weather. We will draw in indoor locations such as cafes and undercover markets, where possible.

Students will learn fundamental observational skills such as:

  • Structural drawing
  • Tonal Drawing
  • Composition
  • Measurement
  • Perspective

The course is suitable for all skill levels and is designed to enable students to express a creative response to architectural or outdoor environments. The tutor will meet each student at their unique individual level.

After completing this course we recommend joining Drawing in Museums, or one of our other Drawing courses to further develop your skills.

Beginner +

All attendees must be aged 18 and over.

Choose a Beginner + course if you are looking to hone your skills, focus on a specific subject area and build your confidence. These courses are suitable for those with some basic skills in and knowledge of the taught medium, but still follow a structured path with guidance from the tutor.

You must bring your own materials to this course. The tutor recommends that you bring the following materials:

  • Sketchbook (A4 or A3 size) – museums keep changing the rules about bag size so it’s safer to just bring a decent size sketchbook.
  • Pencils (B,2B,3B,4B,6B etc)
  • Rubber
  • Charcoal pencils or charcoal
  • Sharpener
  • Portable stools – most museums have portable stools, however it’s always good to bring your own if you have one.

You can purchase one of our Academy Drawing Packs for this course, which is available to purchase at checkout. If you have ordered one of our drawing packs, please ensure you pick this up from the Art Academy Mermaid Court before your course, during our office opening times.

The Drawing Pack contains:

  • One set of lead pencils (2B, 4B, 6B)
