An ideal start point for those wishing to explore sculpture techniques and ideas. This course covers both foundation technical skills and a creative exploration of different materials and ways of working. Sculpture is wonderfully fun and creative and with some simple skills taught, great results can be achieved.
The first half of the week comprises two days of figurative sculpture in clay with a life model and the final three days will involve an introduction to plaster, wire and other materials, culminating in a personal project. Students leave the course with an understanding of possible materials, some technical skills and a growing confidence in their own personal approach to the practice.

Choose a Beginners course if you are looking for a broad introduction to the medium you are studying. Students spend time learning the very basics of the taught medium, for example, how to mix colours, use different tools, set up an easel. Our Beginner courses are suitable for students with no prior experience, they tend to follow a more structured path than our other courses, ensuring each student receives the guidance they need from the tutor.Beginner

The Hollowing and Firing process takes at least 6-8 weeks. Make sure that you take a photograph of your work for identification. You will be informed by email when your sculpture is ready to be picked up.
Arabella Brooke lives and works in London. Her work is shown at galleries and art fairs throughout the year, and held in private collections around the world. ‘My work is figurative and based on observation, mostly recorded in sketchbooks, which I carry around with me at all times, but also on scraps of paper, receipts, the backs of envelopes. This recording, often only a scribbled line, or suggestion of a form, is the starting point for a long process of development in the studio, where their components get rearranged and refigured, until they take on a new and distinct identity of their own’.
