Landscape Painting Outdoors is a fun course that offers the fantastic opportunity to paint in and around London’s urban landscape. The Art Academy is just a short stroll from the river in the historic area of London Bridge, Southbank and a selection of local parks. Working with quick sketches in oil or acrylic, students will practice how to efficiently and accurately capture tone and colour outside.
Creating loose and vigorous landscape paintings, we will look at how to capture a sense of light and atmosphere at different times of day. Looking at the works of other artists we will discuss different ways of composing a painting in an urban setting. Painting outside of the studio is always an exciting experience and students of all levels are sure to enjoy the challenge.

All attendees must be aged 18 and over.
This course is suitable for all levels. Students can move at their own pace depending on their experience, with as much support from the Tutor as they wish. This means an student from the following experience levels can join this course:
Choose a Beginners course if you are looking for a broad introduction to the medium you are studying. Our Beginner courses are suitable for students with no prior experience.
Choose a Beginner + course if you are looking to hone your skills, focus on a specific subject area and build your confidence. These courses are suitable for those with some basic skills in and knowledge of the taught medium.
Our Intermediate courses are suitable for students who have considerable prior knowledge of the taught medium or have completed a Beginners/Beginners + course with the Art Academy.
Choose our Advanced courses if you have considerable knowledge in the taught medium. You are expected to be able to work independently and have critical discussions around your work.All Levels

You will need to bring your painting materials to the class. Please note that when painting outdoors, being organised with your materials and tools is essential. Make sure you bring everything listed below to the class:

Natasha Lien trained as an undergraduate at Central Saint Martin’s College of Art and Design in
London, and completed her postgraduate at the Princes Drawing School. Exhibitions include The Royal Academy Summer Exhibition in 2004, 2007, 2008, Dulwich Picture Gallery, The Mall Galleries, The Royal College of Art and The Slade. Natasha has a wide variety of teaching experience, covering all age ranges. Her workshops include Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery and various adult education classes. Her work includes drawing, painting and print-making. Her compositions tend to focus on people, landscapes and buildings. She has many interests including perspective, colour, tone, rhythm and form. Natasha’s work is in many private collections, including those of HRH The Prince of Wales.
