LOCATION: Mermaid Court Campus, 165A Mermaid Court, SE1 1HR

This week-long Portrait Painting Masterclass will offer an opportunity for intensive study under the tuition of Edward Sutcliffe with the aim of transforming their painting ability and confidence. The course will allow students the freedom to work from two models, both a male and female.

The first 2 days will be focussed on preliminary sketches and the technical aspects of portrait painting whilst the final three days students will aim to produce a completed larger painting of either of the models over the two days. Students will investigate all aspects of portraiture including drawing, tonal painting, anatomy, composition and effective colour use. During the course of the painting there will be an in-depth look at colour mixing and realism.

This exciting course is an intensive week that offers a high level of tutor contact time. Our masterclasses are a special feature of the Art Academy. Drawing on our extensive professional network we are able to persuade expert, sought-after practitioners to teach classes – people who are experts in their field.

Masterclasses are designed as a more in-depth course for students who are interested in expanding their skills with an established artist. Teaching groups are deliberately small, with intense tuition, and personalised guidance. After attending the course, students will receive an AAL Masterclass certificate of completion.

Entry Requirements: Experienced artists or those who have done several courses in the chosen medium. If you’re not sure you meet the criteria please get in touch
