DAYS: 8

TIMES: 10:30am – 4:30pm

EXPERIENCE LEVEL: All Levels

This course aims to deepen your understanding of space and structure in drawing, through two dimensional and three dimensional approaches. The course starts with learning and employing different techniques and strategies to create impressions and levels of space in drawing, such as depth of space, negative space, and layering techniques. You will also explore movement through space, scale and mass and develop large scale atmospheric spatial drawings from off-site drawing work.

You will be guided to explore alternative approaches to drawing including wire drawings in space, ‘drawings without paper’, drawing in three dimensions and drawing as a spatial intervention. Each session will be carefully contextualised with the work of relevant artists, both contemporary and historical. The course is taught by artists who work across 2 and 3 dimensions.

Students will be able to:

  • Analyse the work of others, applying findings to their own work
  • Create drawings in response to movement
  • Create drawings in three dimensions
  • Create drawings through spatial intervention
  • Create drawings using movement and collaboration
  • Create large scale drawing compositions from initial studies
  • Develop a portfolio of studies
  • Develop critical language
  • Research, plan and realise a self initiated project
  • Apply safe-working practices at all times
