• Create drawings and paintings in colour and monochrome, both indoors and out, utilising wet mediums
• Create paintings that utilise the paper as the lightest tone/colour
• Produce works using both wet-on-wet and wet-on-dry paper techniques
• Create simple compositions in both inks and watercolour

This course is open to complete beginners and more experienced artists alike. Laura strongly believes that art is for everyone and works hard to create a positive and curiosity-led learning environment for all.

Beginner

All attendees must be aged 18 and over.

Choose a Beginners course if you are looking for a broad introduction to the medium you are studying. Students spend time learning the very basics of the taught medium, for example, how to mix colours, use different tools, set up an easel. Our Beginner courses are suitable for students with no prior experience, they tend to follow a more structured path than our other courses, ensuring each student receives the guidance they need from the tutor.

  • Cold-pressed watercolour paper (300 g/m) in A4 and A3 sizes (larger if desired, we will be working in a range of scales throughout the weekend)
  • Watercolour paints (pans or tubes) and palette (often included in the lid of sets of watercolours)
  • Jam jar for water to take outside with us
  • Selection of brushes (including one larger brush for washes)
  • Coloured inks (only if desired, this is not a requirement)
