This is an ideal course for those who are:

  • Studying arts subjects and wish to explore the traditional art form of printmaking.
  • Creating new work for their portfolio.
  • Developing new techniques and skills.
  • Further existing abilities in a professional art school environment.

Printmaking is an artistic process based on the principle of transferring images onto another surface, most often paper. Using different mark-making techniques, students will be taken through the basic processes of printmaking techniques.

Through the guidance of specialist tutors, who are also professional practicing artists, students will be introduced to:

  • Drypoint etching
  • Monoprint
  • Linocut

There will be demonstrations followed by practical application and an exploration into various artists who use, and have used, printmaking in their practice. Students will be encouraged to work from their own source imagery (sketches, magazine cuttings, photos, etc.) as an inspirational lead-in to producing their prints. Our small class numbers allow for plenty of supported one-to-one guidance and ample time for press access for printing application.
